Retires 1971 - H. H. Beard is retiring December 31st as an agent for State Farm after forty years of service in Pocahontas County.  Mr. Beard, the son of the late J. W. and Blanche Harper Beard, was born in the house in which he and his wife the former Elizabeth Clark live.  They have one son, Jacob.   He is a graduate of West Virginia University after which he taught for eight years, then worked for Production Credit Association before becoming an insurance agent.  He has been active as a farmer also until the last few years.  He is an elder at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.
Henry Harper Beard, 77, died in Crescent City, Florida, on Tuesday January 4, 1983.  He had been in ill health since suffering a stroke last summer.  Mr. Beard was a farmer and a State Farm Insurance Agent for forty years.   He was a member and an elder of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.   Born in Beard December 19, 1905, he was the son of Jacob W. and Blanch Harper Beard.  Surviving him are his wife, Elizabeth Clark Beard; a son Jacob W. Beard of Hillsboro; a stepdaughter Betty Dorman of Greensboro, North Carolina, and five grandchildren.  Services will be held Friday at 2 PM in VanReemen Funeral Home by the Rev. J. D. Arbuckle with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.   Friends may call at VanReenen Funeral Home after 4 PM Thursday.
Obituary - Elizabeth Clark Beard, age 91, of Welaka, Florida, formerly of Hillsboro and Lewisburg, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at Putnam Community Medical Center, Welaka, after a long illness.  Mrs. Beard was a former teacher of the Hillsboro High School.  She was a member of the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, and active in the Women of the Church.   Born October 4, 1908, at Grafton, she was the daughter of Frank Arthur and Lula (Leith) Clark.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Matthew Lee Beard and Henry Harper Beard.   Surviving her are a daughter, Betty Beard Dorman of Greensboro, NC, a son, Jacob Wilson Beard of Live Oak, Florida; a brother, John Arthur Clark of Northfield, Minnesota; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.   Graveside services were held Friday afternoon at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsboro, by the Rev. Susan Sharp Campbell.
