Jacob Lee Johnson (the senior) was a former Winchester superintendent of schools and former city councilman.   His wife Jean Snow Upshur's father was a Presbyterian Minister of Hillsboro.

Obituary - Jacob Lee Johnson, 71, of 430 Mosby Street, Winchester, Virginia, died Thursday, March 31 1988, in Winchester Medical Center.   He was a former Winchester superintendent of schools and former city councilman.   He was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney college with a Master's degree from the University of Virginia.  he served in the Navy in World War II from 1942 to 1946.   He had a been a teacher and principal in several Virginia schools.  he was a member of Virginia and National Education Association, a Rotarian, a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Winchester.  Mr. Johnson was born in Hillsboro April 5, 1916, the son of Jacob Coart and Mary Beard Johnson.   His father was Presbyterian Minister of Hillsboro.   Surviving him are his wife, Jean Snow Upshur Johnson, whom he married March 31, 1943 in New York City.  Other survivors include a son, Cmdr. Jacob Lee Johnson, Jr., of Washington; a daughter Jean Johnson Hallam, of Stephenson, Virginia, a sister Anna Langford of Faber, Virginia; and four grandchildren.  He was a nephew of Mrs. Leeta Beard Killingsworth of Marlinton.   His funeral was held 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church of Winchester by Dr. James R. Jackson, with burial in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
