Leslie Osborne Beard was born at "Traveler's Repose" a hostelry famous in Civil War days, on April 14, 1874.  He died in Elkins Hospital from Injuries received from Tractor accident October 30. Approximately two thousand people were present at his funeral which took place from the late home.

Obituary - L. O. Beard Dies from Injuries Received in a Tractor Accident - Leslie O. Beard of Green bank dies in Elkins Hospital Saturday Morning from Injuries received from Tractor accident October 30.   Leslie O. Beard of Green bank, a Forman of the Pocahontas Construction Company, failed at two-forty o'clock Saturday morning in the City hospital at Elkins, of injuries sustained on Friday, October 30 when he was run over on the construction of a road which he was supervising, near Elkin, in Preston County.  Mr. Beard was born at "Traveler's Repose" a hostelry famous in Civil War days, on April 14, 1874.  He was a son of Josiah Osborne Beard and Evelyn Medora (Yeager) Beard, and on June 12, 1897, was matched in marriage to Ruby Mae Ralston, daughter of John Henry and ?? ?? (???) Ralston of Bath County, Virginia.   To their union eleven children were born, ten of whom survive, they are:  Dewey Ralston Beard, Bertie; Mrs. Lyle McLaughlin, ??, Mrs. Layke Kerr, Hartford, Pa.; Mrs. Mack H. Borrkes, ???, Mrs. Sterle Nottingham, Jamestown, Pa; Mrs. Ora McLaughlin, Dunmore; Layke Monroe; Wawa, Josephine, and Jean, at home.  Leslie Osborne Jr. aged three years, preceded his father to the grave, September 15, 1924.  Mr. Beard is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Evelyn Yeager Beard, three brothers, Irby R. of Arbovale, Brown B. of Bartow, and Samuel Monroe of Arbovale; three sisters; Mrs. W. N. Sawdager of Elikins, Mrs. Walker Arbogast of Millpoint, and Mrs. Don Harper, also of Elkins, and by six grandchildren.  Approximately two thousand people were present at the funeral which took place from the late home at one o'clock Monday afternoon.  The services were conducted by the Rev. D. McD. Monroe, who was assisted by the ?Rev. J. D. Marshall, and interment followed in the Arbovale cemetery, with the burial rites in charge of Smith and son, of Marlinton.  Mr. Beard has been associated with road construction work of a number of years and was competent and efficient foreman.  Besides the members of his family and other relatives, he leaves a large circle of friends who will regret his death, and consider it a real loss to the Green bank district.
Obituary - Mrs. Leslie O. Beard - Elkins - Mrs. Ruby Mae Ralston Beard, aged 60 years, widow of the late Leslie O. Beard of Greenbank, died in an Elkins hospital on Wednesday night June 29, 1949, following a brain hemorrhage.  On Saturday afternoon the funeral was held from the Myers home in Durbin by her pastor, Rev Graham Keyand Rev. Mr. Sawyer.  Burial in the Arbovale Cemetery.  The deceased was the widow of the late Leslie O. Beard, who preceded her in death about sixteen years since.  They were the parents of eleven children, ten of whom survive; Dewey R., Bertie McLaughlin, Lillian C. Kerr, Bonnie L. Brooks, Hallie Nottingham, Layke, Mildred Armstrong, Wawa Gilmore, Josephine Myers, Jeanne Irons.   Mrs. Beard was the daughter of the late John Henry and Sarah Patience Hamilton Ralston, of McDowell, Virginia.  She was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church.
