Peggy was a teacher in Kanawha, Cabel and Pocahontas Counties in West Virginia, Maryland, and Germany.  She served three years with the Red Cross in Europe during World War II.

Obituary - Peggy Smith - Mattie McNeel "Peggy" Smith, of Locust Hill in Marlinton, died June 18, 1997, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital following a long illness.  She was born January 13, 1918, in Bath County, Virginia.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Zed S. Smith, Jr. and Mattie Beard Smith, and her brother, Col. Z. S. Smith, Ill (U.S.A.F. Ret.).  She is survived by an uncle F. E. "Bus" Smith and special friends, Buck and Cookie Turner.  Peggy was a teacher in Kanawha, Cabel and Pocahontas Counties in West Virginia, Maryland, and Germany.  She served three years with the Red Cross in Europe during World War II.   She received her A. B. Degree from Davis and Elkins College and an M.A. Degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN.   She was a member of the Marlinton Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, and a member of the Pocahontas County Historical Society, Marlinton Women's Club, and was an active supporter of the Pocahontas Libraries.   Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Marlinton, Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dave Nash.  Burial was in the Mountain View Cemetery.
