In early manhood he united with the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church and was a consistent member of the congregation until his death.  His distinguishing characteristics his love of humanity, his sympathy for and understanding of people; his desire to help wherever help was needed, his great unselfishness endeared him to a large circle of friends in all walks of life.

Obituary - Thomas L. Beard - Thomas L. Beard, aged 67, died at his home in the Levels on Saturday, January 290, 1945.   Two days before his death he suffered a stroke of paralysis.  On Tuesday afternoon the funeral was conducted from the home by his Pastor, Rev. J. K. Fleming of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church; interment in the McNeel Cemetery.   Mr. Beard is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Kincaid Beard, and their son, Carl, of the United States Navy, somewhere in the South Pacific.   Also by his daughters, Mrs. Cecil Fergusan, Mrs. Albert Convington, and Mrs. Lee Ruckman.  Mr. Beard was the son of the late Edgar and Lucy McNeel Beard.  His brother is Carl G. Beard, of Hillsboro; and his sister Mrs.. Zed S. Smith Jr. of Marlinton.
Thomas Lee Beard was born at Millpoint, Pocahontas County on July 30, 1877 and died on January 20, 1945.  Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.  Except for the time spent away at school and ten years he lived in Culpepper Va., he spent his entire life in this county among his own people. He was the son of Lucy McNeil and Edgar Beard.  He is survived by one brother, Carl G. Beard of Hillsboro and his sister, Mrs. Zed Smith Jr., of Marlinton.  He was married in June 1905 to Miss Nettie Callison, also of Pocahontas County, who died in August 1915 leaving three children; Virginia, wife of Lt. Albert W. Convington now serving in the Philippines, Lucy Edgar, Mrs. Cecil Ferguson of Huntington; and Maude, Mrs. Lee Ruckman.  In August 1922 he married Miss Mary Kincaid of Frankford, Greenbrier County, who with one son, Carl, serving with the Navy in the South Pacific also survive him.  There are three grand-children, Jane Ruckman, Jimmie and Alfred Ferguson.  In early manhood he united with the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church and was a consistent member of the congregation until his death.  His distinguishing characteristics his love of humanity, his sympathy for and understanding of people; his desire to help wherever help was needed, his great unselfishness endeared him to a large circle of friends in all walks of life.
Mrs. T. L. Beard - Mrs. Mary Kincaid Beard, age 74 years, of Mill Point, died in the Greenbrier Hospital at Ronceverte on Thursday, June 11, 1959, after a short illness.   Born at Frankford February 15, 1885, she was a daughter of the late Dr. James and Alice White Kincaid.  Her husband was the late Thomas Lee Beard.  Surviving her are a son, Carl George Beard of Raleigh, North Carolina; three step-daughters; Mrs. Cecil J. Ferguson of Huntington; Mrs. Lee Ruckman of Marlinton, and Mrs. Albert Covington of Washington, D.C. and two sisters, Miss Edith White Kincaid and Mrs. Byrna Kincaid, both of Frankford.  Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church at Hillsboro by the Rev. J. K. Fleming and the Rev. Horace T. Allen.  Burial was in the McNeel Cemetery.
Charles Edgar Beard married Lucy Ella McNeel 1 Nov 1876. They built and resided in the house on the hill south of Mill Point.   They had three children :  Thomas Lee, Carl George, and Mattie McNeel.  Thomas Lee Beard first married Nettie Jane Calison, daughter of George Washington and Maude McNeel Callison.  He attended the Hillsboro Academy and Business College in Lexington, KY.   His second wife is Mary Hamilton Kincaid, married in 1922.
